Interventional Radiology

Condell Medical Center's Interventional Radiology performs a wide range of minimally invasive diagnostic and treatment procedures. These include angiography, angioplasty, stent placement, PICC line placement, dialysis catheter and graft maintenance, percutaneous biopsy and drainage procedures, drainage tube placement and maintenance, uterine fibroid embolization and vertebroplasty for spine compression fractures.

Monday - Friday, 7 am to 5 pm


To Schedule an Appointment:
To schedule an appointment, call Interventional Radiology at (847) 990-5496. A physician's order is required. Prior to your appointment, you will be contacted by a nurse who will explain the procedure to you and will answer any questions you may have. Important! If you have any allergies, you should let the nurse know prior to coming to the hospital.


When You Arrive:
After registering, you will be asked to change into a patient gown. You can expect to have an I.V. started for most procedures. You may be given an injection to help visualize your internal organs and/or vessels. Most exams take approximately 60 minutes.


During the Exam:
You will be asked to lie on a special table and safety straps may be applied. The table will move as the exam progresses. The radiology equipment also may move around you as the exam progresses. You may be asked to hold your breath for short periods as images are taken. You may hear some noise from the machine as the exam progresses.


After the Exam:
When the exam is finished, you may be expected to stay at the hospital for observation from six hours to 24 hours depending on the exam. *You may be asked to drink plenty of fluids to help your body eliminate the medication used to see your internal organs. The images will be interpreted by a radiologist and a typed report will be sent to your physician within 3-5 days from the time you were examined.
