Intergenerational Story
Until recently, youngsters and adults were either isolated from each other completely or brought together in nursery, preschool or nursing home settings for occasional visits. This separation denied the joys and stimulation that can come from the interaction between children and older adults. We believe that bringing children and seniors together provides an enriching environment that meets the individual needs of both age groups. The Condell Day Center links two generations by allowing the elderly to share cherished stories, knowledge and cultural identities with children. These intergenerational activities increase a sense of self-worth by providing opportunities for both groups to help and be helped, teach and be taught, and love and be loved.
On a daily basis, children and older adults interact in an organized group activity. Seeing each other regularly helps both groups develop bonds that are an important part of the learning process.
