Developmental Approach

Condell Child Day Care’s developmental approach recognizes that children learn at different rates and that learning takes place in a variety of ways and through a variety of media.

Emphasizing exploration, creativity, self-expression and self-esteem, this approach encourages children to challenge themselves in an atmosphere of acceptance, such that each child develops a sense of importance and understanding of his or her limitations.

Each week, a central theme, often based on the children’s interests, guides activities in the following areas:

  1. Circle/Group Time - songs, fingerplays
  2. Language/Literature - books, flannel stories
  3. Music/Movement
  4. Sensory
  5. Art/Creative Expression
  6. Small/Fine Motor
  7. Dramatic Play (See Value of Play)
  8. Science
  9. Gross Motor - in the gym and outside
  10. Intergenerational Care
  11. Math
  12. Special Events/Activities

These activities are geared toward the developmental stages for each age group and foster growth in the following areas:

  1. Language (expressive and receptive)
  2. Social/Emotional
  3. Physical Development (Gross and Fine Motor)
  4. Self-Help/Independence
  5. Cognitive/Perceptual

Because surroundings and environment offer various opportunities for learning, Condell’s classrooms are designed to accommodate a variety of interests. To see a classroom, click on Facility/Activities.
